Position Overview

This role is essential for delivering expert, patient-focused care within a telemetry unit in a regional healthcare setting in the Pacific Northwest. The Advanced Telemetry RN at the Clinical Nurse II level combines specialized skills and certifications to independently manage patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring, collaborating closely with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safety and optimal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Patient Care: Monitor patients with continuous cardiac telemetry, perform detailed assessments, respond swiftly to changes in cardiac rhythms and neurological status, administer medications including non-titratable drips, and develop individualized care plans. Act as a compassionate patient advocate and provide education to patients and families on medical conditions, medications, and lifestyle changes. Promote evidence-based telemetry practices.
• Safety and Compliance: Maintain a safe and clean environment adhering to infection control and regulatory standards such as The Joint Commission and OSHA. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and report safety hazards promptly.
• Documentation: Accurately document all patient care activities, interventions, and responses in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) following established standards.
• Professional Development and Leadership: Mentor new graduate nurses, new hires, and students. Engage in ongoing education and serve as a resource for best telemetry practices. Provide relief charge nurse coverage as needed.
• Emergency Preparedness: Respond promptly and effectively to cardiac emergencies, including arrhythmias and chest pain, utilizing advanced clinical skills.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum two years as a Registered Nurse in telemetry or equivalent intermediate care settings. Experience in post-procedure care such as post-cardiac catheterization, pacemaker insertion, and post-CABG is required. Proficiency in ECG interpretation and arrhythmia management is essential. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment with strong teamwork and decision-making skills.
• Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Candidates with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and five years of telemetry nursing experience may be considered.
• Licenses and Certifications: Current RN license valid in the region, Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification, and Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate (for progressive care units). Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) or Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN Adult) preferred.
