Position Overview

This role is for an experienced Intensive Care Registered Nurse at the Clinical Nurse II level, essential to the ICU team. The nurse will provide expert, patient-focused care, requiring advanced skills, specialized certifications, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure patient safety and optimal health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Patient Care:
  • Lead coordination of the healthcare team to deliver safe, efficient, and equitable care tailored to each patient.
  • Perform thorough assessments to identify individual patient needs.
  • Create and implement personalized care plans.
  • Monitor patient responses to interventions and act promptly as necessary.
  • Advocate for patients, ensuring dignity and confidentiality.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care provided by the team and environmental factors influencing patient progress.
  • Educate patients and families on medical conditions, medications, and lifestyle changes.
  • Promote evidence-based ICU practices.
• Safety and Compliance:
  • Maintain a clean, safe environment following infection control and institutional policies.
  • Strictly adhere to aseptic techniques and regulatory standards including OSHA and The Joint Commission guidelines.
  • Identify and report safety concerns, actively addressing systemic issues.
• Documentation:
  • Accurately record care activities, interventions, patient progress, and incidents in electronic medical records.
• Professional Development and Leadership:
  • Mentor new graduate nurses, new hires, and students to support their growth.
  • Engage in continuing education, certifications, workshops, and quality improvement projects.
  • Serve as a resource and advocate for best ICU practices.
  • Assume charge nurse and Rapid Response Team roles as needed.
• Emergency Preparedness:
  • Respond decisively and skillfully in critical situations such as cardiac arrest.

Qualifications

Experience:

• Minimum two years as a Registered Nurse in a high-acuity Intensive Care Unit or equivalent step-down critical care unit.
• Proven ability to manage complex patient cases.

Competencies:

• Proficient with advanced critical care equipment and technology.
• Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and critical care pharmacology.
• Expertise in maintaining sterile procedural fields and following protocols.
• Excellent critical thinking and rapid decision-making skills in high-pressure environments.
• Effective communication with healthcare teams, patients, and families.

Education

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with five years ICU experience may be considered.

Licenses and Certifications

• Current Registered Nurse license valid in the region.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN) or equivalent preferred.
