Position Overview
This role involves managing the nutritional care of patients across all age groups, from infants to the elderly, by assessing nutritional status and developing, implementing, and monitoring personalized care plans. The professional applies specialized knowledge in nutrition, effectively communicating care principles to patients and collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure integrated and compassionate care delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment, adhering to unit safety and infection control protocols.
- Conduct patient interviews to assess nutritional needs and develop goal-oriented nutrition care plans.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to provide a cohesive, team-based approach to patient care.
- Deliver patient education tailored to individual nutritional requirements.
Qualifications
- Proficient in performing numerical calculations related to nutritional values, enteral feedings, modified diets, and parenteral nutrition.
- Strong understanding of food chemistry, caloric content, physical properties of foods, and medical diet restrictions.
- Effective communication skills to convey diet therapy instructions to patients and their families.
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid driver's license required (for home care roles, auto insurance is also necessary).
- Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential is mandatory.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association Healthcare Provider program.
- California Children Services (CCS) paneling is preferred but not required.
