Position Overview

This role involves preparing the Operating Room and assisting surgeons in a scrub capacity for various surgical procedures. The technician works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, providing care to patients ranging from infants to adults within a regional healthcare setting in the Pacific Northwest.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and sterile environment adhering to infection control standards.
• Keep physician preference cards up to date.
• Assist Registered Nurses with patient care following unit-specific protocols.
• Demonstrate proficiency in specialized skills under RN guidance.
• Retrieve non-controlled medications from computerized stations without preparation.
• Independently scrub in 1-5 surgical specialties including General, Vascular, Ophthalmology, ENT, Plastics, Gynecology, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, and Urology for both outpatient and inpatient procedures.
• Utilize nursing documentation forms according to policy and scope of practice.
• Ensure patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
• Apply safety protocols and aseptic techniques consistent with Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) standards.
• Perform efficiently during emergencies under RN direction.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and accept delegated responsibilities.
• Communicate effectively using appropriate lines of authority.

Education and Experience

• OR Tech I: Minimum 6 months experience as an OR Technologist or recent graduate from an accredited surgical technologist program.
• Weekend Professional and Night Shift: At least 18 months of acute care surgical experience with demonstrated competence in complex procedures such as orthopedic and neurosurgery.
• Evening Shift: Preferred 18 months of acute care surgical experience with competence in complex procedures.
• OR Tech II: Minimum 18 months experience in an acute care surgical setting.

Certifications

• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association required upon hire.
• OR Tech Certification preferred for OR Tech I and required for OR Tech II.

Additional Requirements

Employment is contingent upon passing a physical evaluation, urine drug screening, and background checks prior to starting work.
