Position Overview

This role is for an experienced Intensive Care Registered Nurse at the Clinical Nurse II level, essential to delivering exceptional, patient-focused care within a high-acuity ICU setting. The position demands advanced clinical skills, specialized certifications, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure patient safety and optimal health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Patient Care:
  • Lead coordination of the interprofessional healthcare team to provide safe, efficient, and equitable care tailored to each patient.
  • Perform thorough patient assessments to identify individual needs and develop personalized care plans.
  • Monitor patient responses to interventions and adjust care plans promptly as necessary.
  • Serve as a patient advocate, upholding dignity and confidentiality at all times.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care delivered by the team and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
  • Educate patients and families on medical conditions, medications, and lifestyle changes.
  • Promote evidence-based practices within the ICU environment.
• Safety and Compliance:
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment adhering strictly to infection control and aseptic protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards including those set by The Joint Commission and OSHA.
  • Identify and report safety concerns, actively participating in resolving systemic issues.
• Documentation:
  • Accurately document all care activities, patient progress, and incidents in the electronic medical record system.
• Professional Development and Leadership:
  • Mentor and precept new graduate nurses, new hires, and students to support their growth.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through education, certifications, and quality improvement projects.
  • Act as a resource and advocate for best practices within the ICU team.
  • Assume charge nurse and Rapid Response Team roles as needed.
• Emergency Preparedness:
  • Demonstrate decisive action and advanced clinical skills during critical events such as cardiac arrest.

Qualifications

Experience:

• Minimum of two years as a Registered Nurse in a high-acuity Intensive Care Unit is required.
• Alternatively, two years in an inpatient Telemetry, Progressive Care, or equivalent Step-down Critical Care Unit with successful completion of a Critical Care Curriculum during a Transitional RN Program.
• Proven ability to manage complex patient cases effectively.

• Strong knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and critical care pharmacology.
• Skilled in maintaining sterile procedural fields and adhering to protocols.
• Excellent critical thinking and rapid decision-making abilities in high-pressure situations.
• Effective communication skills with patients, families, and healthcare teams.

Education

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. An Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with five years of ICU experience may be considered in lieu of a BSN.

Licenses and Certifications

• Current Registered Nurse license valid in the relevant U.S. region.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN) or equivalent certification is preferred.
