Position Overview

This role involves assisting with the performance of electrocardiograms (ECG/EKG) to ensure diagnostic quality tracings. The technician prepares patients, operates specialized ECG equipment including treadmills, and manages the distribution and filing of cardiology reports. This position requires a compassionate approach and effective communication skills to support patients and healthcare teams in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and clean work environment adhering to safety and infection control protocols.
• Prepare patients by explaining procedures and instructing them prior to testing.
• Perform proper skin preparation, including shaving if necessary, to ensure accurate lead placement.
• Operate ECG/EKG machines and related equipment such as treadmills and mobile carts.
• Record and transmit ECG/EKG data to archival systems.
• Screen ECG/EKG results for significant arrhythmias or ST changes and promptly report concerns to physicians.
• Maintain accurate computer records and assist with related documentation.
• Ensure equipment is functioning properly and report any maintenance needs.
• Respond promptly to acute emergency situations.
• Assist in training new electrocardiography technicians.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year clinical experience performing ECG/EKG tests.
• Familiarity with ECG/EKG equipment and software, including treadmill operation.
• Strong patient care skills and ability to communicate effectively.

Education

• High school diploma or GED required.

Certifications

• ECG/EKG certification preferred, ideally from the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire, preferably American Heart Association Healthcare Provider.
