Position Overview

This role is essential for delivering exceptional patient-centered care within a telemetry unit in a regional healthcare setting in the Pacific Northwest. The Advanced Telemetry RN at the Clinical Nurse II level requires specialized certifications and the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Patient Care:
  • Monitor patients requiring continuous cardiac observation.
  • Conduct thorough assessments and respond promptly to acute changes in cardiac rhythms, neurological status, and overall condition.
  • Administer medications, including non-titratable drips, and monitor therapeutic effects.
  • Create and implement individualized care plans for patients with cardiac, neurological, and related conditions.
  • Advocate for patients by ensuring dignity, empathy, and compassionate care.
  • Educate patients and families on medical conditions, medications, and lifestyle changes.
  • Promote evidence-based practices in telemetry nursing.
• Safety and Compliance:
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment adhering to infection control and institutional policies.
  • Comply with regulatory standards such as The Joint Commission and OSHA.
  • Identify and report safety hazards and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Documentation:
  • Accurately document patient care, interventions, and responses in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) following established standards.
• Professional Development and Leadership:
  • Provide mentorship and preceptorship to new graduate nurses, new hires, and students.
  • Engage in continuing education and unit-based learning.
  • Serve as a resource for best practices within telemetry care.
  • Act as Relief Charge Nurse when needed.
• Emergency Preparedness:
  • Respond swiftly and effectively to cardiac emergencies such as arrhythmias and chest pain using advanced clinical skills.

Qualifications

• Experience:
  • Minimum two years as a Registered Nurse in telemetry or an equivalent intermediate care setting.
  • Experience providing post-procedure care including post-cardiac catheterization, pacemaker insertion, and post-CABG care.
  • Proficiency in ECG/EKG interpretation and arrhythmia management.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment requiring quick decision-making and teamwork.
• Education:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with five years telemetry experience considered.
• Licenses and Certifications:
  • Current Registered Nurse license valid in the region.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate required for progressive care units; transitional nurses must obtain within six months.
  • Preferred: Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) or Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN Adult) or equivalent.
