Position Overview

This role is designed for a licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant who provides direct perioperative patient care by serving as the first assistant to the surgeon. The professional in this position has developed the necessary knowledge, skills, and judgment through structured training and supervised practice to assist effectively in surgical procedures. Operating under the surgeon's supervision, the first assistant plays a vital role in the operating room and labor and delivery settings.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and clean working environment, adhering to unit safety and infection control protocols.
• Deliver direct patient care as a perioperative first assistant to the surgeon.
• Apply expanded perioperative nursing skills acquired through organized instruction and supervised practice.
• Collaborate closely with surgeons and healthcare team members to prioritize patient needs and coordinate care in line with the medical plan.
• Optimize clinical and financial outcomes through effective coordination.
• Work collaboratively with physicians, healthcare professionals, and staff to provide efficient clinical services.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years’ experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant preferred.
• Proficient in using personal computers.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
• Experience in Orthopedics and Spine care is required.

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.

Licenses and Certifications

• Current Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license valid in California.
• Surgical Assisting Certification of Completion required; Physician Assistants with a fellowship including 6-12 months operating room experience may be considered.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
