Position Overview

This role is essential for delivering expert, patient-focused care within a telemetry unit in a busy healthcare setting located in the Pacific Northwest region. The Advanced Telemetry RN at the Clinical Nurse II level is expected to demonstrate advanced clinical skills, specialized certifications, and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Patient Care: Monitor patients requiring continuous cardiac observation, perform detailed assessments, and respond promptly to acute changes in cardiac rhythms and neurological status. Administer medications including non-titratable drips, and develop individualized care plans for patients with cardiac and neurological conditions. Act as a compassionate patient advocate and provide education to patients and families on medical conditions, medications, and lifestyle changes. Promote evidence-based telemetry care practices.
• Safety and Compliance: Maintain a safe and clean environment adhering to infection control and regulatory standards such as The Joint Commission and OSHA. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and report safety hazards.
• Documentation: Accurately document all patient care, interventions, and responses in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) following established patient care standards.
• Professional Development and Leadership: Mentor new graduate nurses, new hires, and students. Engage in continuing education and serve as a resource for best practices within the telemetry unit. Provide relief charge nurse coverage as needed.
• Emergency Preparedness: Respond swiftly and effectively to cardiac emergencies such as arrhythmias and chest pain using advanced clinical skills.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of two years as a Registered Nurse in telemetry or an equivalent intermediate care setting. Transitional RN candidates must have two years of acute care experience.
• Proficient in post-procedure care including cardiac catheterization, pacemaker insertion, and post-CABG monitoring.
• Strong skills in ECG/EKG interpretation and arrhythmia management.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment requiring quick decision-making and teamwork.

Education

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with five years of telemetry or equivalent intermediate care experience may be considered.

Licenses and Certifications

• Current Registered Nurse license valid in the state of California.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate required for Progressive Care Unit roles; transitional RNs must obtain within six months of hire.
• Preferred certifications include Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) or Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN Adult) or equivalent.
