Overview

As a Registered Respiratory Therapist, you'll provide comprehensive respiratory assessment, treatment, education, and clinical support for patients across a broad spectrum of acute and critical care settings.

Working closely with physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary care teams, you'll evaluate pulmonary status, administer life-saving therapies, assist with ventilator management, interpret diagnostic findings, and educate patients and families throughout their care journey.

Responsibilities

As the Respiratory Therapist, you will:

• Perform comprehensive respiratory assessments utilizing patient history, physical examination, blood gas interpretation, chest imaging, pulmonary diagnostics, and clinical judgment
• Administer aerosol therapy, oxygen therapy, airway clearance therapies, non-invasive ventilation, and mechanical ventilation support
• Participate in ventilator management, patient monitoring, and weaning protocols
• Assist physicians and multidisciplinary teams with respiratory treatment planning
• Perform arterial blood gas collection and interpretation
• Utilize overnight oximetry, peak flow testing, sputum induction, pulmonary diagnostics, and additional respiratory procedures as appropriate
• Document all patient care accurately within the electronic medical record
• Communicate patient status using standardized SBAR handoff procedures
• Educate patients and families regarding respiratory treatments, disease management, and home care needs
• Maintain competency with advanced respiratory care equipment and evolving clinical practices
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental education programs
• Serve as a clinical resource for fellow healthcare professionals throughout the hospital

Qualifications

Education

• Graduate of an accredited CoARC Respiratory Care Program
• Bachelor's Degree preferred

Licensure & Certifications

Required:

• Current Connecticut Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential preferred for sign-on eligibility
• Basic Life Support (BLS)

Preferred:

• Advanced Life Support certifications appropriate to assigned patient populations
• Active participation in professional organizations such as AARC or NBRC
