Join a dedicated healthcare team as a Surgical Services Registered Nurse, providing exceptional care to patients undergoing surgical procedures in a regional hospital setting within the Midwest. This full-time, day-shift role involves collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety and comfort throughout the surgical experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Effectively communicate patient status to interdisciplinary team members in a timely manner.
• Accurately transcribe and relay physician orders, both oral and written.
• Anticipate surgical team needs to facilitate efficient procedures and minimize patient trauma.
• Participate in maintaining surgical schedules and ensure timely starts.
• Understand anesthetic agents and assist with anesthesia as needed.
• Prepare and manage surgical equipment and supplies.
• Assist with record keeping, procedure charging, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Perform pre-operative assessments and complete surgical checklists.
• Follow AORN guidelines for sterile technique and surgical counts.
• Provide safe post-operative care and carry out immediate physician orders.
• Administer and document medications and IV therapy safely.
• Assess and document patients’ physical, psychological, spiritual, and social needs upon admission.
• Educate patients and families about disease processes and treatment plans at an understandable level.
• Develop and implement individualized interdisciplinary care plans.
• Engage in ongoing learning about new surgical procedures and patient care techniques.
• Assist with unit cleaning, supply restocking, and narcotics checks.
• Mentor and orient new staff members.
• Document nursing interventions and patient responses thoroughly.

Education and Experience

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with current Registered Nurse licensure valid for practice in the region.
• Preferably two years of experience in surgical services.

Requirements

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification per American Heart Association standards.
• Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications required within one year of hire.
• Completion of Mandatory Reporter training within six months of employment.
• Compliance with all federal, state, and professional licensure and regulatory training requirements.
