Essential Responsibilities

Deliver patient care under physician guidance, ensuring safety and quality. Mentor and support new staff and students, fostering a collaborative learning environment. Perform nursing duties within the scope defined by licensing boards, demonstrating proficiency in unit-specific competencies, policies, and procedures. Assess patient needs accurately and maintain comprehensive care plans. Encourage patient independence by setting care goals and involving patients and families in discussions about medical conditions, testing, medications, and self-care techniques. Administer medications timely and evaluate their effects carefully. Educate patients and families on physical, emotional, and psychosocial aspects of care, including disease processes, symptom management, and end-of-life considerations when appropriate. Maintain thorough and timely documentation in accordance with organizational policies. Observe and report changes in patients’ physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual conditions. Uphold privacy and security standards related to Protected Health Information (PHI). Foster effective communication and professional relationships with patients, families, healthcare team members, and external partners.

Education

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) is required. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.

Experience

Previous experience in a similar acute care environment is preferred but not mandatory.

Licenses and Certifications

Current Registered Nurse licensure in a compact state is required. BLS/CPR certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire or by the end of orientation. Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, NIHSS, or AWHONN may be required depending on department policies.

Skills and Abilities

Strong communication skills, ability to multitask and prioritize effectively, and basic computer proficiency are essential. Physical ability to perform heavy work, including occasional lifting up to 100 lbs and standing or walking for 51-75% of the workday, with or without accommodation.
