Job Summary: Provide essential clinical support in the operating room, assisting anesthesia providers, surgeons, and team members with procedural tasks to ensure smooth surgical operations. Maintain high standards of instrument processing and sterile technique in accordance with industry guidelines.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist with procedural tasks and monitor instruments and equipment for proper cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization following established standards such as AMMI, AORN, and AST.
• Prioritize tasks effectively and adjust schedules based on department activity levels.
• Use supplies judiciously and support nursing staff by obtaining non-routine supplies promptly without compromising patient care.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to plan and adjust patient care provisions, including revising preference cards and instrument sets as technology evolves.
• Promote teamwork by accepting and delegating tasks appropriately.

Patient Satisfaction

• Work closely with healthcare providers to coordinate intraoperative care and ensure timely instrument and supply setup.
• Maintain a professional, quiet environment and demonstrate excellent guest relations with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.
• Adapt quickly to changes in procedure schedules to enhance patient flow.

Patient Safety

• Ensure thorough cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of all surgical instruments and equipment.
• Prepare for surgical interventions tailored to individual patient needs and respond to unexpected changes in care.
• Adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations and social media policies.
• Verify medications and supplies passed to the sterile field using a double-check system and report any breaches in sterile technique.

Professional Development

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of anatomy, instruments, and equipment.
• Share expertise through orientation, cross-training, and mentoring peers and new employees.

Education and Certification

• Current certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the state board.

Work Schedule

Full-time position with scheduled hours from 7:00am to 3:30pm, 40 hours per week.

This role is based in a regional healthcare setting within the Midwest United States.
