Job Summary: Reporting to the Director of Pharmacy, this Pharmacy Technician role supports pharmacy operations under the supervision of licensed pharmacists. The technician performs essential pharmacy functions to ensure optimal pharmaceutical care within a healthcare setting located in the Midwest region of the United States.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Deliver medications promptly to nursing units and return items as needed, completing rounds efficiently and ensuring proper storage of refrigerated items.
• Maintain and restock unit-based automated dispensing cabinets accurately, ensuring correct medication placement and monitoring expiration dates.
• Perform aseptic compounding of parenteral admixtures and sterile dosage forms, adhering to proper techniques and quality control documentation.
• Process floor stock requisitions, maintain appropriate logs, and manage stock levels, including removal of expired items.
• Handle controlled substances with care, prepare proof-of-use documentation, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations regarding controlled substance management.
• Assist pharmacists with order entry, medication labeling, and customer service tasks such as answering phone inquiries and resolving issues.
• Restock anesthesia dispensing cabinets and other kits, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
• Package bulk medications correctly, maintain controlled substance logs, and submit products for pharmacist verification before stocking.
• Perform miscellaneous duties following departmental policies, exercising sound judgment and effective time management.

Supplemental Responsibilities:

• Support other technician staff during low staffing periods within training limits.
• Answer telephone calls promptly with a customer-friendly approach, referring complex issues to pharmacists.
• Manage multiple priorities effectively and assist in training new employees and students.
• Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to departmental dress codes.
• Follow hospital and departmental procedures and project a professional image.

• Maintain qualifications as outlined in the pharmacy department's technician ladder for a Technician I position.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.

Working Conditions:

This position requires independent decision-making and the ability to prioritize tasks under pressure. Standing and walking are required during shifts. The role involves potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and complies with OSHA risk classifications. Shift work includes 4th shift hours on a scheduled as-needed basis.
