Job Summary: Provide essential clinical support in the operating room by assisting anesthesia providers, surgeons, and team members with procedural tasks. Ensure adherence to established standards for instrument processing and sterilization, maintaining a safe and efficient surgical environment.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist with procedural tasks and monitor instruments and equipment for proper cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization following industry standards such as AMMI, AORN, and AST.
• Adapt to changing department activity levels and prioritize tasks accordingly.
• Use supplies judiciously while supporting nursing staff in obtaining non-routine items without compromising patient care.
• Collaborate with the surgical team to plan and adjust patient care provisions, including revising preference cards and instrument sets as technology evolves.
• Maintain a professional, quiet environment and exemplify excellent guest relations with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.
• Ensure patient safety by adhering to HIPAA, verifying sterile field protocols, and reporting any breaches in sterile technique.
• Participate in professional development by sharing knowledge, orienting new staff, and attending in-services related to product and practice changes.
• Foster strong relationships with physicians, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare professionals, promoting teamwork and flexibility in assignments.

Education and Certification

Must hold current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or be a licensed practical nurse (LPN) or registered nurse (RN) with appropriate state licensure.

Experience and Requirements

Demonstrated ability to work effectively under stress, manage multiple requests, and maintain a high standard of patient care in a surgical setting. Strong communication skills and commitment to teamwork are essential.
