General Summary

The Arrhythmia Scope Technician is responsible for vigilant observation of telemetry monitors and performing receptionist and secretarial duties on the patient care unit. This position serves as a key communication hub within the nursing station.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Adhere to established patient safety protocols, including infection prevention measures.
  • Continuously monitor cardiac rhythms and identify significant patterns.
  • Ensure proper functioning of cardiac monitoring equipment at all times.
  • Remain at the monitor station unless a trained replacement is available.
  • Alert nursing staff promptly about any issues with lead attachments or significant rhythm changes.
  • Perform clerical tasks such as filing, printing, copying, charge entry, and supply ordering to support unit efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate unit log books and ensure all patient charts are properly labeled for scanning.
  • Disassemble medical records upon patient discharge and ensure monitors are returned after transfers.
  • Document rhythm changes during special treatments and measure intervals on telemetry strips, posting updates regularly.
  • Keep patient information boards current and answer phones with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Coordinate with ancillary departments to schedule tests and procedures.
  • Adapt positively to changes while supporting the mission, vision, and values of the healthcare organization.
  • Follow all policies regarding appearance, behavior, and attendance.
  • Maintain an organized and efficient work environment.

Education

High school diploma or GED required.

Experience

At least one year of experience in clerical, receptionist, or hospital duties is preferred. Strong organization, time management, typing, and basic computer skills are essential.

Certification and License

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. Successful completion of a Basic Arrhythmia course will be provided upon hire.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role demands considerable mental focus. Physical activities include lifting up to 25 pounds, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious diseases and occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur. Exposure to communicable diseases through blood and body fluids is possible. Physical discomfort is minimal.
