This role offers the opportunity to work in diverse settings including ICU, Emergency Department, and various medical-surgical units such as Acute Medical Services, Medical Oncology, Surgical Orthopedics, SSU, Acute Rehab, and Transitional Care Facilities.

General Summary

The Acute Care Critical Float Nurse (RN) delivers direct patient care by applying the nursing process with clinical expertise and adherence to the ANA Code of Ethics. This position requires flexibility to support different units based on patient care needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection prevention, safe patient handling, and critical lab notifications to ensure a safe care environment.
• Maintain and care for central lines while preventing surgical site infections according to policy.
• Administer medications, perform nursing interventions, and provide patient and family education to promote quality outcomes.
• Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments to monitor status, enhance safety, and communicate findings to the healthcare team.
• Document all patient care activities and quality monitoring data to support clinical decisions and compliance with quality standards.
• Effectively communicate patient information to physicians and team members to improve outcomes.
• Delegate tasks appropriately while fostering teamwork and accountability.
• Engage with patients and families promptly to enhance their experience and support health education.
• Apply critical thinking in nursing practice and pursue continuing education to develop skills.

Education

Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required.

Experience

At least one year of nursing experience is preferred.

Requirements

• Current RN license in a state within the Compact Licensure system or equivalent.
• Graduate nurses must obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Mental and Physical Demands

This role requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 lbs, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions
