General Summary

Under supervision, the Student Nurse Intern assists with patient treatment and care, adapting to various age groups and developmental needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care including assistance with daily hygiene such as bathing, hair care, oral hygiene, and grooming.
• Perform skin care and take precautions to prevent skin breakdown.
• Assist with physical activities including repositioning, ambulation, range of motion exercises, and transfers.
• Support nutritional needs by preparing patients for meals, assisting with feeding, monitoring intake, and adhering to dietary restrictions.
• Collect specimens, take vital signs, and document intake and output accurately.
• Perform sit baths, postmortem care, and apply supportive devices like TED hose and ice packs.
• Engage in performance improvement initiatives and foster teamwork.
• Carry out technical nursing procedures within credentialing limits, including oxygen therapy, catheter insertion/removal, IV discontinuation, suctioning, dressing changes, wound care, injections, and NG tube maintenance.
• Conduct patient assessments and collaborate closely with the primary nurse.
• Educate patients and families alongside the primary nurse.
• Document all care activities thoroughly and promptly report any changes in patient condition.

Education

Currently enrolled in a nursing program or completed nursing education but not yet licensed.

Experience

Entry-level position; no prior experience required.

Mental/Physical Requirements

Requires significant mental focus, frequent walking, lifting, turning, and physical activity including pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Exposure to infectious diseases, radiation, anti-neoplastic agents, and occasional hostile situations. Frequent contact with blood and bodily fluids. Minimal physical discomfort expected.
