General Summary

The Nursing Supervisor holds delegated authority for administrative supervision on their shift, coordinating staffing and patient flow to maintain efficiency and safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Evaluate staffing needs across patient care areas and reassign personnel as necessary.
• Collaborate with emergency, registration, and nursing units to facilitate timely patient admissions.
• Coordinate emergency surgical procedures effectively.
• Lead hospital personnel during cardiac arrest, fire, and disaster situations with comprehensive knowledge of protocols.
• Support nursing staff by advising on new or complex treatments and answering clinical questions.
• Adapt to unexpected situations using strong problem-solving skills.
• Optimize staffing approaches in line with patient census and budget considerations.
• Interpret hospital policies and regulations for staff, patients, and visitors.
• Monitor nursing units throughout shifts, adjusting staffing as needed.
• Conduct frequent rounds to observe patient care and staff performance.
• Provide feedback to leadership for employee performance evaluations.
• Address emerging issues within nursing and other departments, communicating solutions to supervisors or directors.
• Manage call-in records accurately.
• Obtain necessary medications, supplies, and medical records from other departments to support patient care.
• Assign admitted patients to appropriate beds, considering acuity and service needs.

Education

Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required. A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is preferred.

Experience

Three to five years of clinical registered nursing experience is required, with supervisory experience preferred.

Certification and Licenses

Current Registered Nurse license in a Compact State or the state of employment is required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification is mandatory; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is preferred.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role demands considerable mental focus and physical activity, including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions
