General Summary

As a Certified Surgical Technologist, you will utilize sterile techniques and specialized equipment to assist surgeons in performing a variety of surgical operations. Your role is critical in maintaining a safe and efficient operating room environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical cases accurately using surgeon preference cards and appropriate instruments or prosthetic devices.
• Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology to support surgical procedures.
• Employ aseptic techniques, demonstrate manual dexterity, and anticipate the needs of the surgical team.
• Operate sterilization equipment following established protocols.
• Monitor implantable devices ensuring sterile handling and proper function.
• Inspect and verify the functionality of surgical equipment prior to procedures.
• Maintain and care for surgical instruments, tables, cautery units, and specialty equipment.
• Work independently, manage time efficiently, and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
• Perform delegated tasks under the direct supervision of the surgeon to enhance patient safety and quality of care.

Education

Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program is required.

Experience

Previous experience as a Surgical Technologist or Surgical Nurse is preferred but not mandatory.

Certification and Licenses

• Current Surgical Technologist Certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role demands considerable mental focus and physical stamina, including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Expect regular exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and body fluids, as well as occasional encounters with hostile individuals. Physical discomfort is minimal but present.
