This position involves welcoming patients, managing registrations, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, and providing essential support throughout their healthcare journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Create a warm and efficient environment for patients, addressing their needs from the moment they arrive.
- Collect and accurately enter demographic and insurance information into the system.
- Update patient records and obtain necessary consents and forms.
- Verify insurance coverage through direct contact or electronic systems, ensuring proper pre-authorizations and referrals are in place.
- Explain insurance benefits and financial responsibilities clearly to patients.
- Deliver exceptional customer service by promptly answering calls, addressing concerns, and providing information.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
- Collect co-pays, deductibles, and other payments according to policy.
- Support efficient claims processing and patient satisfaction by managing work queues.
- Assist patients in navigating online portals and adapt to shifting work assignments as needed.
Education
High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience
Preferred: Six months of office, call center, customer service, or healthcare experience. Familiarity with computers and standard office equipment is necessary. Data entry proficiency and graduation from an accredited medical receptionist program or two years in a healthcare setting are advantageous.
Certification
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
Mental and Physical Requirements
Ability to focus with attention to detail under time constraints. Frequent computer use with interruptions. Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, assist and transport patients in wheelchairs, and lift up to 10 pounds.
Working Conditions
Standard office environment with occasional exposure to noise, fumes, chemicals, and other hazards. Flexibility to work various shifts is necessary.
