Education

A graduate from an accredited nursing program is required, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.

Experience and Certification

Current RN licensure under a compact or state license is mandatory. Certification in wound care is highly desirable. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the clinical expert and consultant for inpatient wound, ostomy, and continence care.
• Assess and monitor patients with wounds, collaborating closely with ordering providers and healthcare teams to follow and update care plans.
• Document patient care accurately in electronic medical records, ensuring compliance with documentation standards.
• Provide individualized education and resources to patients and families regarding wound management and ostomy care.
• Lead initiatives to prevent pressure injuries and reduce hospital-acquired conditions.
• Participate in quality improvement projects, data collection, and outcome tracking related to wound care.
• Offer training and competency validation for nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members.
• Support the development and implementation of evidence-based policies aligned with national wound care guidelines.
• Stay current with advances in wound care through continuing education and professional society involvement.

Physical and Mental Requirements

This role requires considerable mental focus and physical activity, including frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 35 pounds, and handling biohazardous materials. The nurse must be able to work effectively under stress and maintain punctuality and accountability.
