General Summary

The Hospital Billing Manager provides strategic direction and supervision for the hospital billing department, managing daily operations and fostering a high-performing team environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of hospital billing regulations and serve as a resource for the team.
• Supervise, train, and mentor billing staff to enhance performance and professional development.
• Evaluate and monitor team members’ work, providing coaching and counseling to drive positive change.
• Set clear objectives and priorities, assign tasks, and ensure quality control of billing activities.
• Lead the team through business challenges with sound judgment and effective communication.
• Oversee daily operations to address emerging issues and trends, keeping stakeholders informed of risks.

Education

An associate degree in healthcare or a related field is required. Five years of hospital billing experience may substitute for formal education. A bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Experience

At least one year of hospital billing experience is required.

Certification/License

Certification from the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) is preferred.

Mental/Physical Requirements

Requires considerable mental concentration and the ability to communicate detailed information effectively, both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are essential.
