As a Patient Care Assistant (PCA) in the perioperative setting, you will work under the guidance of licensed nurses (RN, LPN, or shift managers) to provide essential direct patient care.

Key Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection prevention, safe patient handling, and timely communication of patient condition changes to licensed nurses.
• Perform basic patient care tasks such as monitoring vital signs, glucometer checks, assisting with toileting, feeding, bathing, and mobility activities.
• Collaborate closely with nursing staff to meet patient needs promptly, ensuring safety and enhancing the overall patient experience.
• Accurately document all patient care activities to support clinical decision-making and communicate relevant patient information to the healthcare team.

Education

A high school diploma or GED is preferred.

Experience

One year of experience and certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is preferred.

Certification and Training

If uncertified or with less than one year of experience, attendance at a PCA training academy is required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment; training is provided.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, standing, walking, and various movements such as turning, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids is expected. Occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur.
