General Summary

Under the supervision of a licensed nurse (RN, LPN, or shift manager), the Patient Sitter delivers continuous observation and minimal assistance with activities of daily living, ensuring a safe environment for vulnerable patients.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control, safe patient handling, and timely communication of patient behavior changes to nursing staff.
• Collaborate closely with nursing teams to meet patients' basic needs and promptly respond to requests, enhancing overall patient experience and safety.
• Provide constant 1:1 observation for patients requiring sitter services, ensuring seamless safety coverage.
• Accurately document patient behaviors and activities at designated intervals according to policy.
• Communicate relevant patient information to appropriate team members to support improved outcomes and maintain safety.
• Adapt positively to changes while upholding organizational values and mission.
• Maintain professionalism in appearance, behavior, and attendance.
• Provide care with dignity and respect, maintaining a calm demeanor during stressful situations.
• Protect patient confidentiality by discussing observation details only with the care team.

Education

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Experience

At least one year of experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.

Certification/License

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role requires strong mental focus and excellent communication skills. Physical demands include standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious diseases and potentially hostile individuals may occur. The position involves contact with communicable diseases through blood and other body fluids, as well as interaction with restless or agitated patients. Minimal physical discomfort is expected.
