Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region, where your role as a Clinic Laboratory Assistant is vital to patient care. This position involves performing a variety of pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical laboratory tasks with precision and care.

Key Responsibilities

• Prioritize and process incoming specimens following strict safety and quality guidelines.
• Review and verify physician orders and specimen integrity to ensure accuracy.
• Generate and attach labels correctly, matching specimen information with orders.
• Distribute specimens promptly to meet or exceed turnaround time goals.
• Resolve processing conflicts, communicate with providers for redraws, and coordinate specimen recollection.
• Perform quality control checks and report any discrepancies to supervisors.
• Collect chain of custody drug screens and conduct glucose tolerance testing according to protocols.
• Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies, reorder as necessary, and keep work areas clean and organized.
• Collect specimens using venipuncture, capillary puncture, or arterial methods, ensuring minimal patient discomfort and adherence to collection protocols.
• Follow safety practices and hand hygiene protocols consistently.
• Assist with administration of medications as ordered, including oral, IM, and SQ routes.

Education

High school diploma or GED is required.

Experience

Preferred: At least one year of experience as a phlebotomist or laboratory assistant.

Certification

No certification required, though ASCP certification is advantageous.

Mental and Physical Requirements

Requires close mental and visual attention for short periods. Approximately 50% of the time is spent standing and walking. Ability to lift or carry up to 20 pounds is necessary.

Working Conditions

Exposure to infectious materials is constant. Work environment is air-conditioned with moderate noise levels. Flexibility to work various shifts may be required.
