General Summary

The Cardiac Cath Lab RN delivers direct patient care, utilizing nursing knowledge and skills to support life-saving procedures and patient safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection prevention, safe patient handling, and critical lab notifications to ensure a safe care environment.
• Administer medications, perform nursing interventions, and provide patient and family education within policy guidelines to promote quality outcomes.
• Engage in quality monitoring and process improvement initiatives as directed by leadership.
• Safely administer conscious sedation, peri-procedural pharmacologic agents, and emergency medications as needed.
• Conduct thorough initial and ongoing patient assessments to monitor status, enhance safety, and communicate findings effectively to the healthcare team.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities, vital signs, cardiac rhythms, medications, and supplies used during procedures.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with physicians, nursing staff, patients, and families to improve care outcomes and patient experience.
• Delegate tasks appropriately while fostering teamwork and accountability.
• Adapt positively to changes in healthcare dynamics and pursue ongoing education to enhance nursing skills.

Education

Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required.

Experience

At least one year of critical care or equivalent nursing experience is necessary. Experience in interventional Cardiac Cath Lab is advantageous.

Certification and Licensure

• Current RN license valid in the regional state or Compact Licensure.
• BLS and ACLS certification through the American Heart Association are mandatory.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role demands considerable mental focus and physical stamina, including frequent heavy lifting, extended standing periods wearing lead aprons, and the ability to perform CPR. The nurse must be capable of pulling sheaths and applying pressure for extended durations.

Working Conditions

The position involves wearing full lead attire for radiation safety, exposure to communicable diseases, infectious materials, and occasional interactions with hostile individuals. Handling sharps and biohazardous materials is routine, and the nurse must function effectively under stress.
