General Summary

The Surgical Services Educator is a professional Registered Nurse responsible for overseeing educational programs and performance improvements across multiple surgical and perioperative departments including OR, Endoscopy, Pre-Op, PACU, Pain Management, ASU, and Sterile Processing. This role collaborates closely with department managers to ensure orientation processes are effective and compliant with all regulatory standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and manage individualized orientation and education plans, monitoring progress throughout the process.
• Identify and address areas for improvement in orientation using clinical assessment tools and develop actionable plans.
• Maintain and update equipment and procedural knowledge through evidence-based practice and vendor collaboration.
• Coordinate student rotations and shadowing experiences in partnership with instructors and educational centers to ensure comprehensive clinical exposure.
• Ensure compliance with annual competencies, certifications, and licensure requirements tailored to departmental needs.
• Lead quality improvement initiatives based on management feedback and provide targeted education accordingly.
• Assist with data collection and reporting for multidisciplinary improvement projects using electronic medical record systems.
• Step into clinical roles during staffing shortages to maintain skill proficiency and support team effectiveness.
• Promote a culture of teamwork and accountability by adapting positively to change and supporting organizational goals.

Education

A graduate from an accredited Baccalaureate nursing program is required. A Master of Science in Nursing is preferred.

Experience

Applicants should have at least five years of acute care nursing experience and a minimum of two years in peri-operative nursing.

Requirements

• Current RN license in a Compact State or equivalent.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• CNOR certification is preferred.

Mental and Physical Demands

This position requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 lbs, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions
