General Summary

Under general supervision, the Student Nurse Intern performs a variety of patient care duties tailored to individual age and developmental needs. This role involves assisting patients with daily living activities, providing hygiene support, and ensuring comfort and safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with daily hygiene including bathing, hair care, oral hygiene, and grooming.
• Provide skin care and take precautions to prevent skin breakdown.
• Support physical activities such as repositioning, ambulation, range of motion exercises, and transfers.
• Meet nutritional needs by preparing patients for meals, assisting with feeding, and monitoring dietary restrictions.
• Collect specimens, perform vital signs, and document intake and output accurately.
• Perform sit baths, postmortem care, and apply therapeutic devices like TED hose and ice packs.
• Lead and encourage participation in performance improvement initiatives.
• Carry out technical nursing procedures within credentialed scope, including oxygen therapy, catheter insertion/removal, IV discontinuation, suctioning, dressing changes, wound care, injections, and NG tube maintenance.
• Conduct patient assessments and collaborate closely with primary nurses.
• Educate patients and families in coordination with nursing staff.
• Document all care activities thoroughly and accurately in medical records.

Education

Currently enrolled in a nursing program or completed nursing education but not yet licensed.

Experience

Entry-level position; no prior experience required.

Mental/Physical Requirements

This role requires considerable mental focus, frequent heavy lifting, turning, walking, and physical activities such as carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Exposure to infectious diseases, radiation, anti-neoplastic agents, and occasional hostile situations. Frequent contact with blood and bodily fluids is expected. Minimal physical discomfort overall.
