General Summary

The Cardiac Cath Lab Registered Nurse delivers direct patient care using comprehensive nursing knowledge and skills, operating independently within the scope of nursing practice and adhering to regional nursing board regulations and facility policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection prevention, safe patient handling, and critical lab notifications to ensure an optimal care environment.
• Administer medications, perform nursing interventions, and provide patient and family education within established guidelines to promote quality outcomes and safety.
• Engage in quality monitoring and process improvement initiatives as directed by leadership.
• Safely administer conscious sedation, peri-procedural pharmacologic agents, and emergency medications as needed.
• Conduct thorough initial and ongoing patient assessments to monitor status, enhance safety, and communicate findings effectively to the healthcare team.
• Demonstrate critical thinking in patient care and document all activities accurately to support compliance with quality measures.
• Maintain clear communication with physicians, team members, patients, and families to improve care experiences and outcomes.
• Participate in service recovery and follow-up on patient concerns professionally.
• Delegate tasks appropriately while fostering teamwork and accountability.
• Adapt positively to healthcare dynamics and pursue ongoing education to enhance nursing skills.
• Document procedural details including vital signs, cardiac rhythms, medications, and supplies used during catheterization cases.
• Interpret hemodynamic waveforms and data recorded during procedures.

Education

Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required.

Experience

At least one year of critical care or equivalent nursing experience is necessary. Experience in an Interventional Cardiac Cath Lab is advantageous.

Certification and Licensure

Current Registered Nurse license valid in the regional jurisdiction or Compact Licensure. BLS and ACLS certification through the American Heart Association are mandatory.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role demands considerable mental focus and physical stamina, including frequent heavy lifting, prolonged standing while wearing lead aprons, and the ability to perform CPR. The nurse must be capable of applying pressure to catheter insertion sites for extended periods.

Working Conditions

Employees must wear full lead protective attire for extended durations and may be exposed to communicable diseases, radiation, and potentially hostile situations. Handling sharps and biohazardous materials is routine. The ability to function effectively under stress is essential.
