Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region, providing essential emergency medical services with compassion and skill. This full-time Advanced EMT role involves delivering basic life support, including patient assessment, airway management, and the use of automatic defibrillators. You will assist patients with medication administration and ensure safe ambulance operation under all conditions, demonstrating thorough knowledge of local routes and addressing systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess and continuously monitor patient conditions, providing rescue interventions following established protocols when direct medical control is unavailable.
• Apply critical thinking to evaluate patient needs and plan appropriate care.
• Delegate tasks to First Responders within their scope and assess their performance.
• Collaborate effectively with paramedic partners, maintaining tasks within your scope of practice.
• Perform advanced airway management techniques such as King Airway insertion, C-PAP, oral/nasal airways, and Autovent use.
• Apply splinting methods including ladder, SAM, board, and traction splints, and implement spinal motion restriction.
• Coordinate patient care with healthcare team members and emergency service providers.
• Provide concise and pertinent patient handoff reports to receiving medical staff.
• Operate ambulance safely and efficiently according to policy guidelines.
• Adhere to infection control procedures and safe patient handling techniques.
• Document patient care accurately using required reporting forms.
• Communicate effectively with other departments and emergency services.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an approved state EMT program is mandatory.

Experience: One year of EMT experience preferred but not required.

Certifications and Licenses: Current state EMT license required. BLS and PHTLS certifications must be obtained, with PHTLS and a Class E driver’s license to be acquired within six months of hire.

Mental and Physical Requirements: This role demands considerable mental focus, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and perform activities such as standing, walking, sitting, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching. Extended driving and managing stressful, traumatic situations are also part of the job.

Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to infectious diseases and potentially hostile individuals may occur. The position involves regular contact with communicable diseases through blood and other bodily fluids, with minimal physical discomfort expected.
