Join a dedicated healthcare team in the Midwest region as a Surgical Technologist specializing in OB/Nursery care. This role involves collaborating closely with anesthesia providers, surgeons, and other surgical staff to ensure patient safety and support throughout surgical procedures.

General Summary

The Surgical Technologist is a skilled caregiver who assists before, during, and after surgery using sterile techniques and specialized equipment. This position requires precision, anticipation of surgical team needs, and maintaining a sterile environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with surgical procedures, including C-sections, in the Labor & Delivery operating room.
• Prepare and maintain surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring sterile setup for deliveries and surgeries.
• Coordinate inventory and supply management with Sterile Processing.
• Demonstrate proper aseptic and scrub techniques consistently.
• Support patient care by answering unit phones, performing nursing aide duties, and documenting patient information.
• Maintain cleanliness and stock of OB/Nursery equipment, delivery rooms, and nursery areas.
• Provide assistance with activities of daily living such as meals, grooming, skin care, and toileting.
• Perform postpartum care including application of K-Pads, ice packs, and binders.
• Collect specimens, monitor vital signs, and document intake and output.
• Communicate any changes in patient condition or behavior to appropriate personnel promptly.

Education

Graduation from an accredited Nursing, Practical Nurse, or Surgical Technologist program is required. Candidates with CNA certification and documented cross-training as a scrub tech are also considered.

Experience

Previous experience as a Surgical Technologist or Surgical Nurse is preferred but not mandatory. Surgical Assistants should have at least three years of scrub experience.

Certification and Licenses

Training in surgical scrub techniques and completion of scrub tech orientation in both OR and OB settings are required. American Heart Association BLS certification must be obtained prior to orientation completion. Preference is given to candidates with Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role demands considerable mental focus and physical stamina, including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases is expected, along with occasional encounters with hostile individuals. Physical discomfort is minimal but present.
