Join a dedicated healthcare team in the Midwest region as a Nursing Shift Manager (NSM), a key Registered Nurse role responsible for overseeing unit operations during shifts. This position emphasizes leadership in patient safety, quality care, and staff development.

General Summary

The NSM assumes management duties on the unit, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and quality standards while supporting nursing staff and enhancing patient outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Implement and monitor patient safety measures including infection prevention, safe patient handling, and critical lab notifications.
• Coach and counsel staff on safety and quality standards to maintain compliance.
• Manage central line care and prevent surgical site infections according to policy.
• Deliver quality nursing care through medication administration, interventions, and patient/family education.
• Support quality initiatives by monitoring staff compliance and participating in process improvements.
• Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments, providing feedback to improve staff performance.
• Utilize critical thinking to identify and address areas needing improvement in patient care.
• Document patient care activities and quality monitoring accurately to support compliance.
• Communicate effectively with physicians, team members, patients, and families to enhance care and patient experience.
• Delegate tasks appropriately while fostering teamwork and accountability.
• Adapt positively to healthcare dynamics and pursue ongoing professional development.

Education

Graduation from an accredited nursing school is required. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.

Experience

At least one year of registered nursing experience is preferred.

Certification and Licensure

• Current RN license in the state or Compact Licensure.
• Graduate nurses must obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required.

Mental and Physical Requirements

Requires considerable mental focus, ability to lift up to 35 lbs., and perform activities such as standing, walking, turning, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions
