General Summary

The SBO Billing Specialist handles inbound and outbound communications to address patient inquiries and resolve outstanding balances. This role requires clear explanations of coinsurance, copays, deductibles, contractual adjustments, and discounts, while also managing payment plans and loan financing options.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide primary customer service for patient questions regarding financial responsibilities.
• Resolve patient complaints related to billing and clarify insurance coverage details.
• Contact guarantors about past due balances and process payments securely.
• Offer payment options including monthly plans and bank loan financing through secured portals.
• Screen and process financial assistance applications for eligible patients.
• Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA guidelines when handling patient information.
• Delineate billing complaints from patient care issues, escalating the latter appropriately.
• Reconcile business banking and credit card accounts accurately.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional training in healthcare billing or customer service is preferred.

Experience

Experience in medical billing is highly preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with billing software and electronic data submission is advantageous.

Certification/License

Relevant certifications or licenses are a plus but not mandatory.

Mental/Physical Requirements

Ability to communicate detailed information clearly, maintain concentration during repetitive tasks, and perform physical activities such as standing, walking, sitting, reaching, and occasionally lifting up to 10 pounds.
