Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region, providing essential pharmacy support in a dynamic inpatient setting. This role involves delivering medication orders to nursing units, restocking automated dispensing cabinets, troubleshooting automation issues, and compounding both sterile and non-sterile preparations following USP standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond promptly to medication requests from hospital staff and ensure patient needs are met.
• Assist pharmacy staff, nursing, and physicians by researching medication information using electronic health records and other resources.
• Participate in pharmacy and hospital quality improvement initiatives.
• Perform accurate pharmacy calculations and utilize pharmacy automation software effectively.
• Troubleshoot and coordinate resolution for automated dispensing cabinet issues.
• Conduct safety checks including barcode scanning and visual inspections during medication dispensing processes.
• Maintain competency in IV room procedures and prepare compounded sterile and non-sterile products with aseptic technique.
• Handle hazardous medications safely using closed-system transfer devices.
• Support training of new technicians and pharmacists as appropriate.
• Engage in ongoing professional development through educational programs and literature.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience

One year of pharmacy experience is preferred but not mandatory.

Certification and Licensing

Must register or apply for pharmacy technician registration prior to starting. Certification as a Pharmacy Technician is required within one year of employment.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This position requires considerable mental focus, standing and walking up stairs for approximately 75% of the shift, light lifting up to 25 pounds, and fine manipulation skills for handling small vials, syringes, and needles.

Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in the pharmacy with frequent rounds to patient care units. Exposure to refrigeration units, automation equipment, printers, telephones, IV room noise, pressure barriers, and cleaning chemicals is expected.
