This full-time, day-shift role focuses on managing patient account balances, including hospital and physician billing services, through attentive communication and problem-solving.

General Summary

The SBO Billing Specialist serves as the primary contact for patients regarding their financial responsibilities such as coinsurance, copays, and deductibles. This role involves handling inbound and outbound calls to address inquiries, resolve balances, and provide payment options.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional customer service by explaining patient financial obligations, contractual adjustments, and discounts.
  • Resolve patient complaints related to billing and clarify insurance coverage details.
  • Contact guarantors about past due balances and securely process payments.
  • Offer payment plans and bank loan financing options within policy guidelines.
  • Screen and assist patients with financial assistance applications for outstanding balances.
  • Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA regulations when handling patient information.
  • Delineate billing issues from patient care concerns, escalating the latter appropriately.
  • Reconcile business banking and credit card accounts accurately.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional training in healthcare billing or customer service is preferred.

Experience

Previous experience in medical billing is highly preferred. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and billing software, including electronic data submission, is advantageous.

Certification/License

Relevant certifications or licenses in billing or healthcare administration are beneficial but not mandatory.

Mental/Physical Requirements

Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to focus on repetitive tasks for extended periods. Physical ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, and occasionally lift items up to 10 pounds.

Working Conditions

Standard office environment with occasional exposure to noise, fumes, chemicals, and other hazards typical of healthcare settings.
