General Summary: Under the general supervision of a licensed nurse (RN, LPN, or shift manager), the Patient Care Assistant (PCA) delivers direct patient care with compassion and attention to detail.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Adheres to established safety protocols including infection prevention and safe patient handling. Performs basic patient care tasks such as monitoring vital signs, glucometer checks, assisting with toileting, feeding, bathing, and mobility. All duties are performed within hospital policy guidelines to ensure quality outcomes and patient safety. Collaborates closely with nursing staff to meet patient needs promptly, enhancing the overall patient experience. Accurately documents all care activities to support clinical decision-making and communicates relevant patient information to the healthcare team to improve outcomes.

Education

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Experience

One year of experience and certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred.

Certification/License

If uncertified or with less than one year of experience, attendance at a PCA training academy is required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment; training is provided.

Mental/Physical Requirements

Requires considerable mental focus. Physical demands include lifting up to 35 lbs., turning, standing, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, reaching, and frequent walking.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids. Occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur.
