Key Responsibilities

• Prioritize and process incoming specimens following strict safety guidelines.
• Review and verify physician orders and specimen integrity.
• Generate and accurately label specimen samples, ensuring proper identification.
• Distribute specimens promptly to meet or exceed turnaround time goals.
• Resolve processing conflicts and coordinate re-collections when necessary.
• Perform quality control checks and report any irregularities to supervisors.
• Collect chain of custody drug screens and conduct glucose tolerance testing according to protocols.
• Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and coordinate reordering to ensure adequate stock.
• Keep work and storage areas clean, organized, and well-stocked.
• Collect specimens using venipuncture, capillary puncture, or arterial methods with minimal patient discomfort.
• Follow safety and hygiene protocols rigorously.
• Assist with administration of medications as ordered.

Education

High school diploma or GED is required.

Experience

At least one year of experience as a phlebotomist or laboratory assistant is preferred.

Requirements

No specific certification or license is required, but attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are essential. Physical demands include standing and walking for up to 50% of the time and the ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
