This full-time, day-shift role focuses on providing exceptional financial counseling and support to patients regarding their billing inquiries and balances for both hospital and physician services.
General Summary
The Accounts Billing Officer is responsible for managing patient financial communications, including answering inbound calls and initiating outbound calls to resolve outstanding balances. You will assist patients by explaining coinsurance, copays, deductibles, contractual adjustments, and discounts, while also addressing complaints related to billing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary contact for patient questions about their financial responsibilities.
- Resolve billing complaints and clarify insurance coverage details.
- Contact guarantors regarding past due balances and process payments securely.
- Offer payment options such as monthly plans and bank loan financing through secure portals.
- Screen and assist patients with financial assistance applications for outstanding balances.
- Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA guidelines when handling patient information.
- Distinguish billing issues from patient care concerns and escalate appropriately.
- Reconcile business banking and credit card accounts.
Education
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional training in healthcare billing or customer service is preferred.
Experience
Previous experience in medical billing is highly preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with billing software and electronic data submission are advantageous.
Certification/License
Relevant certifications or licenses in billing or healthcare administration are beneficial but not mandatory.
Mental/Physical Requirements
Strong communication skills, visual acuity, and the ability to comprehend written instructions are essential. The role requires normal mental concentration for repetitive tasks, and the ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, and occasionally lift items up to 10 pounds.
