General Summary

The Cath Lab Charge Nurse is a skilled Registered Nurse responsible for overseeing unit operations, guiding staff, and maintaining high standards of patient care throughout the shift.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection prevention, safe patient handling, and critical lab notifications to maintain a secure environment.
• Monitor and coach staff compliance with safety and quality standards, providing constructive feedback and education.
• Maintain central lines and implement measures to prevent surgical site infections according to policy.
• Deliver quality nursing care including medication administration, interventions, and patient/family education.
• Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments to monitor status, enhance safety, and support the healthcare team with accurate information.
• Review and co-sign admission assessments performed by LPN staff, ensuring quality and accuracy.
• Utilize critical thinking to identify areas for improvement and guide patient care staff to achieve optimal outcomes and patient satisfaction.
• Document all patient care activities and quality monitoring accurately to support compliance with established measures.
• Communicate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, patients, and families to improve outcomes and enhance the care experience.
• Delegate responsibilities appropriately while fostering teamwork and accountability within the unit.
• Adapt positively to healthcare dynamics and participate in ongoing education to develop professional skills.

Education

Graduation from an accredited nursing school is required. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.

Experience

At least one year of registered nursing experience is required. Experience in a catheterization lab setting is preferred.

Certification and Licensure

• Current RN license valid in the state or through compact licensure.
• Graduate nurses must obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role requires considerable mental focus, frequent walking, standing, and physical activities such as lifting up to 35 lbs., turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases, as well as occasional encounters with hostile individuals, may occur. Minimal physical discomfort is expected.
