As an Advanced Patient Care Assistant (PCA), you will work under the guidance of licensed nurses to deliver direct patient care that promotes safety, comfort, and well-being.

General Summary

Under the supervision of a licensed nurse (RN, LPN, or shift manager), the PCA performs vital patient care tasks to support clinical staff and enhance patient outcomes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection prevention, safe patient handling, and timely communication of patient condition changes.
• Provide basic care such as monitoring vital signs, glucometer checks, assisting with toileting, feeding, bathing, and mobility activities.
• Collaborate closely with nursing staff to meet patient needs promptly and ensure a positive care experience.
• Accurately document all patient care activities to support clinical decision-making.
• Effectively communicate relevant patient information to healthcare team members to improve quality of care.

Education

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Experience

At least one year of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is preferred.

Certification and Training

If uncertified or with less than one year of experience, candidates must complete a PCA training academy. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within the first 90 days of employment; training is provided.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, standing, walking, and various movements such as pushing, pulling, and bending.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids is expected. Occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur.
