As a Patient Care Assistant (PCA), you will work under the supervision of licensed nurses to deliver direct support to patients, ensuring their comfort and safety throughout their care journey.

General Summary

Under the guidance of an RN, LPN, or shift manager, the PCA performs vital patient care tasks that contribute to a safe and healing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control, safe patient handling, and timely communication of patient condition changes to licensed nurses.
• Provide basic care such as monitoring vital signs, glucometer checks, assisting with toileting, feeding, bathing, and mobility activities.
• Collaborate closely with nursing staff to meet patient needs promptly and enhance their overall experience.
• Accurately document all patient care activities to support clinical decision-making by the healthcare team.
• Effectively communicate relevant patient information to improve outcomes and quality of care.

Education

High school diploma or GED is preferred.

Experience

At least one year of experience and certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is preferred.

Certification/License

If uncertified or with less than one year of experience, attendance at a PCA training academy is required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment; training is provided.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, standing, walking, and various movements such as turning, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids is expected. Occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur.
