General Summary

The Registered Nurse in this position is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for patients undergoing endoscopic procedures. This role covers the intra-operative period and requires interaction with patients throughout all phases of their experience. Effective communication with gastroenterology, internal medicine, surgical teams, and anesthesiology is essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with National Patient Safety Goals as outlined by regulatory bodies.
• Review patient charts to meet documentation standards and policies.
• Provide patient education tailored to individual learning needs and assess its effectiveness.
• Offer clear explanations and verbal reassurance to patients consistently.
• Identify physical symptoms and changes promptly, taking appropriate action.
• Demonstrate competency in administering moderate sedation and monitoring cardiac rhythms, reporting abnormalities to physicians.
• Maintain strict medical and surgical asepsis during treatments and procedures.
• Support patient and family needs with empathy, promoting safety, comfort, dignity, and respect.
• Exhibit flexibility, organization, and teamwork; assist in orienting new staff members.
• Participate in quality assurance and continuing education programs.
• Maintain open communication with nursing and healthcare personnel.
• Ensure a safe, clean environment by following infection control procedures and guidelines.
• Maintain and troubleshoot endoscopy instruments, ensuring proper cleaning and disinfection per manufacturer and SGNA guidelines.

Education

Graduate from an accredited nursing program.

Experience

Preferred: One year of acute care nursing experience.

Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse license in a Compact State or the state applicable to the region.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 lbs, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious diseases and occasional encounters with hostile individuals. Exposure to communicable diseases through blood and body fluids is common. Minimal physical discomfort is expected.
