General Summary

Working under the supervision of an RN, LPN, or shift manager, the Patient Care Assistant (PCA) delivers essential bedside care, ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout their stay.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control, safe patient handling, and timely communication of any changes in patient condition to licensed nursing staff.
• Perform basic care tasks such as monitoring vital signs, glucometer checks, assisting with toileting, feeding, bathing, and mobility activities.
• Collaborate closely with nursing personnel to meet patient needs promptly and maintain a safe, supportive environment.
• Accurately document all patient care activities to aid clinical decision-making and ensure continuity of care.
• Effectively communicate relevant patient information to the healthcare team to promote positive outcomes.

Education

High school diploma or GED is preferred.

Experience

At least one year of experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is preferred.

Certification and Training

If uncertified or with less than one year of experience, candidates must complete a PCA training academy. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within the first 90 days of employment; training is provided.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This role requires significant mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, standing, walking, bending, and other movements necessary to assist patients safely.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids is expected. Occasional interactions with challenging individuals may occur.
