General Summary

Under supervision, the intern performs patient care duties tailored to individual age and developmental needs, assisting with daily living activities and clinical tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care including hygiene assistance such as bathing, hair care, oral hygiene, and grooming.
• Deliver skin care while preventing breakdown and assist with physical activities like repositioning, ambulation, range of motion exercises, and transfers.
• Support nutritional needs by preparing patients for meals, assisting with feeding, monitoring intake, and adhering to dietary restrictions.
• Collect specimens, perform vital signs, and document intake and output accurately.
• Perform specialized care such as sit baths, postmortem care, application of compression stockings, cold packs, and binders.
• Lead and encourage participation in performance improvement initiatives and teamwork.
• Carry out technical nursing procedures within credentialed scope, including oxygen therapy management, catheter insertion/removal, IV discontinuation, suctioning, dressing changes, wound care, and patient assessments.
• Administer intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, maintain nasogastric tubes, and educate patients and families in collaboration with primary nurses.
• Communicate promptly with licensed nurses regarding any changes in patient condition or concerns.
• Maintain thorough and accurate documentation of all patient care activities in medical records.

Education

Currently enrolled in a nursing program or completed nursing education but not yet licensed.

Experience

Entry-level position; no prior experience required.

Mental/Physical Requirements

Requires significant mental focus, frequent walking, lifting, turning, and physical activity including pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Exposure to infectious diseases, radiation, anti-neoplastic agents, and occasional hostile individuals. Frequent contact with blood and bodily fluids. Minimal physical discomfort expected.
