General Summary

The Medical Assistant supports clinical operations by performing delegated patient care tasks, ensuring safety, and maintaining efficient communication between patients and healthcare providers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established safety protocols including infection prevention and safe patient handling.
• Escort patients, obtain vital signs, perform EKGs, verify medications and allergies, and document patient histories accurately and promptly.
• Manage phone communications, route messages, and assist with patient inquiries and test result follow-ups.
• Assist with medication renewals, authorizations, and administration (oral, IM, SQ) as ordered.
• Perform point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens for laboratory analysis.
• Schedule appointments, diagnostic procedures, and surgeries as directed by providers.
• Complete necessary paperwork, prior authorizations, and referrals efficiently.
• Maintain supply inventory and ensure exam areas are clean and well-stocked.
• Educate patients on electronic health record access and assist with enrollment.
• Support orientation and training of new medical assistants.
• Demonstrate accountability, teamwork, adaptability, and maintain excellent attendance.

Education

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program is required, or equivalent experience. A high school diploma is mandatory.

Experience

At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or related medical specialist is preferred but not required. Experience in a medical clinic setting is advantageous.

Certification and Licenses

• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification from an accredited organization such as AMT is preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This position requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 lbs, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious diseases and occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur. Exposure to communicable diseases through blood and body fluids is common. Minimal physical discomfort is expected.
