This position focuses on providing exceptional service to patients and their representatives, accurately collecting necessary information, and facilitating access to clinical care and reimbursement processes.
General Summary
As an Access Specialist, you will greet and interview patients, gather precise demographic and insurance details, and secure proper consents for treatment and information release. You will verify insurance information electronically, resolve discrepancies, and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including HIPAA and EMTALA.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Welcome patients and representatives, collecting accurate registration and insurance data.
- Obtain admission consents and verify insurance coverage through electronic systems.
- Address patient inquiries promptly and maintain confidentiality in all communications.
- Collect applicable copays and direct patients to appropriate treatment areas.
- Recognize registrations requiring pre-authorization and validate orders thoroughly.
- Document patient account information accurately and understand billing and denial processes.
- Ensure compliance with Medicare Secondary Payor rules, privacy standards, and patient rights.
- Maintain organized workspaces and manage time efficiently while upholding professional standards.
Education
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Preference is given to candidates with certificates or diplomas in Medical Front Office, CNA, or Medical Terminology.
Experience
At least six months of experience in office, call center, customer service, or healthcare settings is necessary. Proficiency with computers and standard office equipment is essential.

Mental/Physical Requirements
The role demands strong concentration, attention to detail, and the ability to perform tasks under time constraints. Frequent computer use with interruptions is expected. Physical requirements include standing, walking, sitting, reaching, assisting and transporting patients in wheelchairs, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
Working Conditions
Standard office environment with occasional exposure to noise, fumes, chemicals, and other hazards. Shift work is required.
