General Summary

The Certified Surgical Technologist is a skilled professional who assists in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, managing sterile instruments, and anticipating the needs of the surgical team before, during, and after surgery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical cases accurately using surgeon preference cards and appropriate instruments or prosthetics.
• Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology to support surgical procedures.
• Maintain strict aseptic technique and demonstrate dexterity while anticipating surgical team requirements.
• Operate sterilization equipment following established protocols.
• Monitor and handle implantable devices with sterile technique and ensure proper function.
• Inspect and verify the functionality of surgical equipment prior to procedures.
• Care for surgical instruments, tables, cautery units, and specialty equipment responsibly.
• Work independently, accept accountability, adapt to change, and maintain focus under pressure.
• Organize information efficiently, maintain a clean workspace, and manage time effectively.
• Perform delegated tasks under the direct supervision of the surgeon to uphold quality and patient safety.

Education

Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program is required.

Experience

Previous experience as a Surgical Technologist or Surgical Nurse is preferred but not mandatory.

Certification and Licenses

• Current Surgical Technologist Certification.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Mental and Physical Requirements

This position requires considerable mental focus and physical stamina, including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.

Working Conditions

Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and body fluids is expected. Occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur. Minimal physical discomfort is typical.
