General Summary

The Nursing Shift Manager (NSM) is a licensed Registered Nurse responsible for managing the unit throughout their shift, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Adhere to established policies related to patient safety, including infection prevention, safe patient handling, and critical lab notifications to maintain an optimal care environment.
• Monitor and coach staff compliance with safety protocols and quality measures, providing constructive feedback and education as needed.
• Maintain central lines and prevent surgical site infections according to policy guidelines.
• Deliver quality nursing care encompassing medication administration, nursing interventions, and patient and family education.
• Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments to monitor status, enhance safety, and communicate findings effectively to the healthcare team.
• Review and co-sign admission assessments completed by LPN staff, ensuring accuracy and quality.
• Utilize critical thinking to identify areas for improvement and guide patient care staff to meet quality outcomes and patient satisfaction goals.
• Document all patient care activities and quality monitoring accurately to support compliance with established standards.
• Communicate pertinent patient information to physicians and team members to improve outcomes and enhance the patient experience.
• Address patient care concerns professionally and perform service recovery when necessary.
• Delegate responsibilities appropriately while fostering teamwork and accountability among staff.

Education

Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.

Experience

At least one year of registered nursing experience is preferred.

Certification and Licensure

• Current RN license valid in the state or through compact licensure.
• Graduate nurses must obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification required.
