This role serves as the primary point of contact for orthopedic and podiatry clinics, managing telephone communications and front desk operations with professionalism and warmth. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Promptly answer and direct incoming calls.
- Welcome patients with a friendly and respectful demeanor.
- Communicate clearly with patients and their families, keeping them informed throughout their visit.
- Accurately collect and enter demographic and insurance information into the system.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with privacy regulations regarding patient information.
- Schedule appointments following established protocols.
- Assist patients and guardians with patient portal setup during visits.
- Conduct patient confirmation calls and guide patients to complete registration and paperwork via the patient portal.
- Show compassion and sensitivity when interacting with patients and others.
- Take and process messages promptly and accurately.
- Update patient demographic and other necessary forms at each encounter.
- Verify insurance coverage and collect co-payments at the time of service.
- Inform patients about their financial responsibilities related to insurance coverage.
- Demonstrate accountability, work independently, adapt to change, and maintain punctuality and attendance standards.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required. Preference given to graduates of accredited medical receptionist or similar programs, or candidates with two years of healthcare experience.
Experience
Preferably two years of experience in a general medical office or similar healthcare setting. Equivalent customer service experience with similar responsibilities will also be considered.
Certification
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.
Mental and Physical Requirements
This position requires significant mental focus. Physical demands include lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a medical office environment with occasional exposure to infectious diseases and potentially hostile individuals. Minimal physical discomfort is expected.
